November 13th, 2023 marks the 2nd anniversary of Bishop Ketlen Solak’s consecration and installation as the ninth Bishop of Pittsburgh. As she remembers her consecration, Bishop Ketlen remarks, “I was just so touched by the attention to detail and all of the care that went into making the day so special. I was really grateful to the people, the transition committee, all of the volunteers…It was a lot of work and it was just beautiful. I felt very cared for. And that’s very nice to feel cared for by people you don’t yet know but who you’re going to be with in this wonderful partnership.”
Two years later, Bishop Ketlen expresses that she still feels the joy and conviction of being called to be with the people of Pittsburgh. “I feel like I’m moving more and more into what I was really called to do,” she says. “I’m enjoying the process of getting to know people, getting to know the parishes, and then feeling like we are starting to build our partnership together. I find that to be joyful. It excites me to see how God is going to work on us as we go along, but I feel like we’re starting to get some understanding of each other.”
Almighty God, you poured upon us the new light of your incarnate Word: Grant that this light, enkindled in our hearts, may shine forth in our lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (BCP, pg. 213)
