The Rev. Canon Joann Saylors has recently relocated to become the Canon to the Ordinary for Mission, Vitality, and Administration in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Her work involves extending the vision and ministry of the Bishop throughout the diocese and working toward the fulfillment of the diocesan vision, summarized by the statement: “Grounded in Christ, Growing Anew.” She will serve a vital role in carrying out plans and decisions to nurture the growth of congregations – spiritually, numerically, and in leadership capacity – while remaining grounded in, and guided by, the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
Previously Joann served as Canon for Mission Amplification in the Diocese of Texas, where she led a dynamic team responsible for planting new communities of faith and helping existing congregations to become more missional and vital. She served in that role beginning in 2017, when she and her husband Rick relocated from San Antonio. She served there as Canon for Deployment and Congregational Development in the Diocese of West Texas. Joann received her M.Div. from Seminary of the Southwest in Austin and was ordained a deacon in 2010 and ordained a priest in 2011. Prior to ordination Saylors was a financial systems and project management consultant. Raised in Dallas, she graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Plan II Honors Program and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Honors Finance and Accounting. She remains licensed as a CPA.
Joann and Rick were married in 2000 and live in Stanton Heights.
