The Rev. Canon Kim Karashin

The Rev. Canon Kimberly Karashin is a Pittsburgh native. She earned her undergraduate degree in education from Penn State in 1996 and an MBA from Duquesne University in 2003. For nearly 18 years, she worked for Pittsburgh-based PNC Financial Services, in various areas including operations, project management, and communications.

After years of discernment, Kim left PNC in December 2014 to pursue education and work in Christian ministry. She attended Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, PA, where she earned an MAR (Master of Arts in Religion) with an emphasis in Christian ministry and missiology.

In November 2015, Kim joined the staff of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, as its Canon for Mission. She added the role of diocesan Director of Administration in 2020. In April 2022, Bishop Solak appointed Kim to her present position of Canon to the Ordinary.

Kim was ordained to the priesthood in June 2019. She is one of two regular supply priests at Church of the Advent, Brookline, and also enjoys visiting and serving other parishes across the diocese.

Kim and her husband Jerry were married in 2006 and reside in the suburb of South Park.


Responsibilities…

  •  Serves as the bishop’s chief assistant in the oversight of the diocese and the diocesan staff.
  • Assists the bishop in the support and care of diocesan clergy.
  • Provides support, resources, and insight to help clergy and lay leaders, parishes, and ministries to flourish, both spiritually and missionally, with a particular emphasis on the support of small parishes.
  • Serves as the Diocesan Transition Minister, overseeing ministry transitions, clergy placement and deployment, and general personnel matters. Helps to ensure that both clergy and congregations continue to thrive throughout and beyond a period of transition.
