The Church of the Redeemer, Squirrel Hill, presents a concert featuring Julia Mente singing solos, and duos and trios with Julie Hanify & David Mahler on Friday, August 14, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.
Soon Julia Mente packs her duds and heads off to college. Those who have watched Julia grow during her years at Redeemer will especially want to experience this evening. Julia, with Julie & David, will warble Shaker hymns and traditional spirituals, Stephen Foster songs, fancy rounds, tunes collected by Carl Sandburg, songs from musical traditions other than North American, and more. Sad songs, goofy songs, finger rappers, toe snappers, and elbow flappers line up next to dark and mysterious croons. Hanging out with these numbers will be three songs by American musical explorer, Charles Ives, one of which includes sparkling flutistic nourishment from Frances Dannenberg, and good-for-what-ails-you vocal supplements from Susan Krouse and Cynthia Magistro.
Your admission donation (whatever amount you’re capable of) will benefit the Redeemer Senior Choir Robe Fund.
