For Lent this year, the Commission on Race and Reconciliation (CORR) is remembering author Toni Morrison, who died last August at the age of 88. She was the first African-American woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature for her writing and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama in 2012.
Her work is “a prose so precise, so faithful to speech and so charged with pain and wonder that the novel becomes poetry,” said John Leonard, former Executive Editor of the New York Times Book Review.
