At our diocesan convention, the Rev. Raymond Bonwell spoke on the theme, “Love, Teach, Heal: Who is My Neighbor?” Then, in subsequent table conversations, members of the diocese imagined what it would look like to make new neighbors with whom to share the love of God in Christ.
Let’s continue the conversation, talking about how the Church can reach friends, family and neighbors who might be considered religious “nones,” those who, for whatever reason, feel rejected by organized religion and, when asked on a survey to identify their own religious affiliation, select the box labeled “None.” These may be young adults, members of the LGBTQ community and their families, … anyone! Join us as we discern how to build relationships with those who are not experiencing the love of Christ, and instead are feeling pushed away as a result of various cultural and political forces.
Planning is under way for an evening prayer service at 6 p.m., Friday, November 23, with pizza and conversation to follow. We’ll gather at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 600 Pitt St., in Wilkinsburg.
