New Officers and Other Highlights of Diocesan Council’s New Year

Wintry weather kept many members away, but Diocesan Council kicked off its 2010 business agenda on a snowy January 4th evening with the election of three new officers and a series of reports, including one from a now-in-residence bishop.

Council elected the Rev. William Geiger, rector of Christ Church in Indiana, as President. John Hose, a member of the Church of the Advent in Jeanette and chair of council’s budget committee, was chosen as Vice-President/President-elect. The new secretary is Robert Johnston of St. Paul’s, Mt. Lebanon.

An updated roster of Council and other diocesan leadership groups is available on the “About” page of the diocesan website.

Also that night, Bishop Price announced:

♦ “Moving Forward Together,” a day open to everyone in the diocese as a way of promoting lay leadership in our parishes, will be sponsored by the Diocesan Life committee on Saturday, April 10, at St. Paul’s in Mt. Lebanon.
♦ all diocesan clergy and lay members of leadership groups will be offered a two-day CREDO experience at a Pittsburgh-area location on May 21-22. CREDO is funding this event for all re-organizing dioceses in the Episcopal Church.
♦ his recommendation that the diocesan offices remain in Monroeville for now while the groundwork is laid for a move to a permanent location. The current suite of offices will be expanded to include a larger conference room and worship area.

In her Treasurer’s report, Dr. Joan Gundersen announced that the diocese will end the fiscal year with a surplus, in large part due to the number of parishes that met their financial obligations to the diocese.

Council meets again February 1, March 8, April 5, and May 3. All meetings are set for Calvary Episcopal Church except for April’s session, which will be determined later.
