With the retirement of Bishop Dorsey McConnell, we are looking for a group of people who will nominate candidates for the position of ninth bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. This is a unique responsibility that requires a substantial commitment of time and talent.
The responsibilities of the members of the nominating committee are as follows:
- gather information from around our diocese as to the qualities we seek in our next bishop
- develop a diocesan profile for potential candidates to consider as they discern whether to place their names in nomination
- screen and interview potential nominees through a series of stages
- recommend final nominees for the electing convention to consider
The following are commitments that must be made by members of the committee:
- This is a substantial time commitment which will include meeting at least once a month and more probably every other week (twice a month)
- There is a full day retreat on Saturday, March 14, 2020, which is a requirement of membership for the committee
- There will be subcommittee work for each member outside of the scheduled meetings
- The work of this committee will be prayerful. The members of the committee should have an active prayer life
- Membership of this committee will need to be your primary responsibility in the life of the church. It might require you to take time off from other church responsibilities in order to do a complete job
- Members must keep the work of the committee in strictest confidence
If you feel that you are called to be a member of this committee after prayerful consideration, please fill out an application for consideration of membership (available by clicking here for a Word document or here for a PDF) by Saturday, February 1, 2020.
