The Episcopal Diocese of Maryland has invited the Pittsburgh Youth Initiative participants to join them on a mission trip to Talanga, Honduras this summer – July 27 to August 3, 2012.
Youth and adults who show a serious interest in going on this trip are encouraged to attend an informational session at Christ Episcopal Church, North Hills on Sunday, February 19 at 6:00 p.m. We will have a SKYPE meeting with The Rev. Canon Wes Wubbenhorst, the Canon for Youth in the Diocese of Maryland. Canon Wubbenhorst will discuss the work to be performed; costs associated with the trip, and answer any questions you may have.
We do understand that this is very short notice, but we only recently learned of the opportunity. Please contact Vickie O’Brien to let her know you are planning on attending this informational session at vobrien@episcopalpgh.org.
Honduras Mission 2012
Reaching out to the poorest of the poor, serving God through serving others: The sixth year of Diocesan mission to Honduras
Talanga is a farm school run by El Hogar Ministries and is an amazing place. This will be our sixth year working at the agricultural school. The work there entails light construction, farming and home visits during this week. There will be opportunities to collect the 1,000 plus eggs every day, milk the cows, prepare chickens for market, plant crops and enjoy wonderful Honduran meals. This trip will be traveling through the Capitol Tegucigalpa. As one of our missioners wrote in their reflection …
“…but my experience taught me that language isn’t always important. It is love that breaks barriers. The lessons that the boys taught me are infinite and I don’t think they will ever know how much they have done for me. They taught me how much joy can be achieved from serving others and how much one can gain in return from helping other people.” -Youth Missioner, 2008
