On Friday, January 22, St. Michaels' of the Valley, Ligoner, will screen the award-winning movie "Bella".
When Mexican soccer star Jose experiences an unexpected personal tragedy his career is ended and he takes a job at his Brother's upscale Mexican restaurant in New York City. Nina, who is a waitress is going through her own personal crisis and when Jose's brother fires her Jose leaves the kitchen and to be her friend and help her make the most difficult decision of her life.
The film is the brainchild of Eduardo Verastegui, who plays Jose. He had been a Mexican soap opera and movie star. While learning English his tutor pressed him about how he was using his talents and he decided to make only life affirming films. Unable to sell the script to an established film company he formed "Metanoia" productions with several others (Metanoia is the Greek word for repentance) and produced the film themselves.
The winner of the Toronto Film Festival People's Choice award "Bella" is a reminder that every life is sacred.
The film will be shown at 7:00 p.m. and all are welcome. A brief discussion will follow the viewing.
