John Barrett Kerfoot is consecrated as the first bishop of the new diocese of Pittsburgh.
The service is held at Trinity Church in Pittsburgh.
In attendance are Presiding Bishop John Henry Hopkins (Vermont), and Bishops Charles McIlvaine (Ohio), William Whittingham (Maryland), John Williams (Connecticut), J.C. Talbot (Assistant Bishop of Indiana), Cleveland Coxe (Western New York), and Robert Harper Clarkson (Missionary Bishop of Nebraska). Kerfoot sets off almost immediately to tour his new diocese.
