25 May 1865
Meeting in Philadelphia, the annual convention of the Diocese of Pennsylvania takes up the question of dividing the diocese on its next-to-last day. The committee reports that sixteen parishes favored the division and two (St. Andrews and St. James) did not. Eighteen clergy in the region favored dividing the diocese. After amending the resolution to set a precondition that the region raise a fund to support the episcopacy of at least $30,000 before getting the bishop's approval for division, the convention votes 140 to 116 to allow the division.
