Bishop Potter informs the convention that he returned to the country to find that the convention had discussed division of the diocese and referred the matter to a committee. He tried to speed things along with conditional approval at the 1859 General Convention of the Church, but due to a series of errors, his efforts misfired and the now the earliest that such a division can take place will be when General Convention meets in 1862.
