A circular letter written by Bishop Potter is read to the convention. He asks for the election of an Assistant Bishop rather than a division of the diocese because he is not sure his health would allow him to properly serve the remaining diocese after division.

Trinity Church in Conneautville is admitted to union with the Diocese of Pennsylvania.
After fifteen ballots Samuel Bowman is elected Assistant Bishop. He is consecrated as a bishop 25 August 1858
