29 July 1775
Alexander Balmaine, rector of Augusta Parish, Virginia holds a service and preaches at Jacob's Creek in Fayette County. While there had been earlier services led by laymen or clergy of other denominations using the Book of Common Prayer, Balmain's is the first documented service by a clergy person from the Church of England/Episcopal Church in western Pennsylvania. In 1775, Virginia claimed what is now the western part of Pennsylvania.
