St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Lebanon will host the Special Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, which has already been announced as occurring on Saturday, December 13th.
In addition to conducting the important business of reorganizing diocesan offices, the convention will feature a festive Eucharistic celebration that’s expected to include the first ordination in the reconstituted Diocese.
A pre-convention prayer service and reception are planned for Friday evening, December 12, at St. Paul’s so that convention deputies have a chance to get to know each other, the new diocesan leadership team, and out-of-town dignitaries invited to attend the convention.
The Saturday morning business session will center on filling vacancies in all elected diocesan offices and approving a budget. A detailed listing of posts to be filled will be issued in the near future. Official notification about the convention is expected to be mailed to parish leaders within a week. Details regarding the starting time and agenda will also be released.
The Eucharist planned for early Saturday afternoon promises to be a diocesan-wide celebration. Invitations will be sent soon to parish Music Directors to form a combined choir. Acolytes, eucharistic ministers, and vergers will also be invited to represent the diocese’s many parishes.
God willing, the Rev. Kristian Opat will be ordained to the priesthood at the Convention Eucharist. Kris is a native of Bethel Park, graduated from Grove City College and Trinity School for Ministry, served the Three Nails community and is the new curate at St. Paul’s. His ordination is subject to final approval by the Standing Committee. The ordination will be presided over by one of several bishops invited to the Convention.
Many details about the Convention and Eucharist will be forthcoming over the next days and weeks. Check this website regularly for updates.
