Dear Friends:

When I interviewed Nate Rugh at Virginia Seminary five years ago, I was struck by his intellect, his humility and his zeal for the Gospel. These attributes have stood him in good stead throughout his exemplary ministry here, first as curate, then as associate rector. He has touched the lives of all of us as he has matured in the ministry. He will long be remembered here as a thoughtful preacher, an insightful teacher, and a gifted liturgist. His work with the Welcome! Committee has done much to make Calvary truly a place where we welcome all in the Name of Christ. Rebecca has been a partner in that ministry, and we are especially appreciative of her dedicated work at Beginnings. And it has been a special joy to watch Eliot, Gavin and Blake grow up in our midst. Nate, as you know, has accepted a call to be rector of St. Augustine by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Santa Monica, California, and it is with mixed emotions, indeed, that we wish them Godspeed.

The Rugh family's last Sunday at Calvary will be July 31st, There will be only two services on that day – 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., at which Nate will celebrate the Eucharist and preach his farewell sermon. We hope that you will make every effort to be present. Following the latter service, which will take place in the Nave, there will be a reception and luncheon for them in the Refectory and Swan Garden. As has been our custom, we will present Nate and Rebecca with a purse, as an outward and visible sign of our appreciation for their sojourn among us. In so doing, we "fulfill" the words of a great hymn: "Send heralds forth to bear the message glorious/Give of thy wealth to speed them on their way." We hope that you will contribute generously to that purse. Checks should be made payable to Calvary Episcopal Church, and marked "Rugh Purse."

This comes with my best wishes for an enjoyable summer, and my profound gratitude for all you do on Calvary's behalf.

Yours faithfully,

HTL+
