Diocesan Transitions for November, 2024

New Calls

The Rev. Sara Irwin is now serving as Rector of St. Andrew’s, Highland Park. She started at the parish on September 1 after concluding her time at Saint John Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Carnegie, where she served as Pastor for over six and a half years. A Celebration of New Ministry will take place at St. Andrew’s on Saturday, November 23.

The Rev. Miguel Carmona-Romero and his wife Lauren moved to the Pittsburgh area from Texas, where he served as Vicar at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in the city of Garland. He was ordained to the priesthood in the Diocese of Dallas in 2021. Bishop Ketlen has granted Fr. Miguel a License to Officiate in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. He joined the diocesan staff as its Missioner for Ministry in Brookline, effective November 1, and has also been added to our roster of supply clergy.

The Rev. Dr. Mary Jayne Ledgerwood has been called to serve as Trinity Cathedral’s Canon of Administration, beginning December 1. She is coming to Pittsburgh from the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast, where she served as Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church in Mobile, Alabama.

Retirements

The Rev. Deacon Lorena Ringle retired from active ministry at the end of October. Lorena was ordained to the diaconate by Bishop Dorsey McConnell in 2015 and served as Deacon and Director of Christian Formation at Christ Church, North Hills. She also contributed to the life of the diocese in various ways, including serving for a time on the Commission on Ministry and as a member of the Clergy Conference Planning Team.

As Bishop Ketlen announced in October, Elaine Zevkovich, our diocesan Treasurer and Director of Administration, plans to retire effective January 3, 2025. Retiring early from her thirty plus year-long career in finance and management is a long-held dream Elaine has entertained, and now is the time for her to fulfill this dream. She is an invaluable, wise, and dedicated member of the diocesan team and we will miss her.

The Rev. Canon Jim Shoucair will be retiring from active ministry at the end of January 2025. Canon Jim was ordained to the priesthood in 1999 and has served as Rector of Christ Church, North Hills, since 2002. He plans to continue playing an active role in the life of the diocese. He has served as our Convention Secretary for many years and also serves as a Title IV Intake Officer.

Transfers Out

The Rev. Shawn Malarkey transferred his canonical residence to the Diocese of Southern Virginia on October 29. Fr. Shawn serves as Rector of Eastern Shore Chapel Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach. He previously served at Nativity Church, Crafton, for eight years.
