Dear Friends in Christ,
The pre-election anxiety, which has deeply affected so many, has come and gone. The reality of the outcome of our national election is setting in. Since we are not monolithic, either as a nation or as a people of faith, various people are rejoicing while others are mourning what may feel like calamitous loss. If you find yourself identifying with those in the latter category, I offer here the comfort that only the promises of God can give.
Of course, it is natural and healthful to allow grief to take its course. In the midst of grief, I want to remind you of this verse from the Psalms: “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18 NAS), and of these words Jesus speaks in the Gospel of John “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” (John 14:27 NAS).
Beloved of God, remember this: Jesus, who is alive and who calls his people who profess him as Savior and Lord to keep the eyes of their hearts and minds fixed on him, is the One whom Scripture proclaims as the beginning and the end: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” (Revelation 22:13 NAS).
In Christ,
