St. Michael's of the Valley in Ligonier awarded its annual scholarship to a graduating student of The Neighborhood Academy on May 27, this year honoring Slippery Rock University-bound Amanda Lawson.
"The Neighborhood Academy has impacted my life greatly," Amanda wrote in her scholarship application essay, "From college preparedness to study skills, The Neighborhood Academy has done it all."
The Academy is an independent, faith-based school serving low-income student and is located in the Garfield section of Pittsburgh. St. Michael's scholarship helps pay for books and fees over all four years of the student's college education. The parish maintains close ties with the students throughout, to encourage their academic and spiritual development.
